January Mystery Reader

Sgt. David Archer of the Kentucky State Police was one of the Lowes Elementary School’s second grade mystery readers for the month of January. Students were given clues about the reader the week before his arrival. Sgt. Archer was dressed in uniform and was accompanied by his four legged partner.  Students enjoyed hearing Sgt. Archer read Aero and Officer Mike.  The book gave the students a glimpse of a day with the officer and his police dog.

Winter Mystery Reader

Lowes’ 2nd grade was recently visited by Trent Okerson, meteorologist for WPSD Local 6.  He showered them with clues such as, “I might be your favorite person when you see your school's name on Snowman 6”.  Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was chosen by Mr. Okerson to be read to the students. The children were given an opportunity to ask various questions that interested them about his job.   That evening, the students waited anxiously to hear him mention  their  visit and see their photograph of this exciting day.

Flood Wall Field Trip

Our students enjoyed learning more about the history of Paducah, as we toured the Flood Wall and the River Heritage Museum.  The day ended with a trip to Pizza Inn!

October Mystery Reader

Mr. Jason Baldwin, Assistant Chief of the Mayfield Fire Department, was the Lowes Elementary School’s second grade mystery reader for the month of October. Students were given clues about the reader the week before his arrival. Mr. Baldwin was dressed in full firefighter equipment.  He shared fire safety tips and discussed his uniform equipment with the students.  They discussed emergency evacuation plans for their homes.  Students enjoyed hearing Mr. Baldwin read Clifford the Firehouse Dog, which included fire safety.
